What's Good

  • A key strategic resource for UX initiatives; this book does a fantastic job of outlining the business realities that surround UX design projects for new solutions, as well as providing the detailed psychologies of users you’ll encounter during market adoption process with techniques to use when that happens.
  • Lots of examples; the author goes into great detail for both business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) with a wealth of examples for each.
  • Written in an approachable, conversational style; this book is written for a broad audience, and the subject matter is presented clearly (for the most part) with lots of specific examples.

What Can Be Improved

  • Assumes some business knowledge; in some places, business jargon and processes are mentioned without any kind of explanation, and (while this isn’t a deal-breaker) it does force the reader to stop to conduct some quick clarifying research before continuing.

The Bottom Line

  • A recommended read for anyone curious about sharing new products & ideas; even if UX Strategy & Design are not your focus, this book can provide a broader context for how organizations (large, small, or in-between) can successfully share their solutions with the world.
  • A “Must Have” for any serious UX Strategist/Designer; this book offers key insights into the business landscape and the organizational priorities that directly affect us as UX Strategists & Designers, and can help teams to anticipate the needs of their stakeholders as projects progress.
  • Incredible value at a low price, but expect to spend more over time; at around $22, this individual book is absolutely worth it, but be aware that the larger series of books (of which this one is the first) will run you about $100 if you want to buy the whole set.
