What's Good

  • Approaches the subject broadly before moving into specific techniques; this helps to bring everyone up to speed on why resiliency research is important (and how it can help you) before going into more detail with specific types of resiliency exercises.
  • A library of resources; everything is well-indexed and thoroughly referenced, so if you want to follow-up any anything specific you have plenty of ways to do that.
  • Content is easy-to-follow and authoritative; readers are given clear, relatable concepts that have numerous examples that are supported by studies conducted in the field of psychology.

What Can Be Improved

  • Step-by-step techniques for building resiliency can get lost in the text; jotting down quick notes at the end of each chapter helps solve this by keeping things quickly accessible for reference.

The Bottom Line

  • Helps to make UX professionals more adaptive to change; with technology moving at a break-neck pace, this book is a great primer/refresher for dealing with that constant change with humour, confidence, and professionalism.
  • Promotes an essential work/life balance for any experience level; this book contains valuable insights and techniques for any professional, whether they're just starting out or need to get back to basics with more complex challenges.
  • A critical & priceless resource; for a price-point around $20, this book presents a massive amount of value for designers and the challenges they regularly face (i.e. building your personal resilience, managing challenging relationships, leveraging opportunities, etc.).
